Don’t Get Stuck With a Lemon When You Know What to Look For
It’s an unfortunate fact of life that no two wedding dresses are made equally. In fact, because wedding dresses have a lot of hand craftsmanship to them, even no two designer wedding dresses are made alike. There can be variations in the fabric, the color, the beading, and even the hem thanks to inferior products that made it to the line, someone having a bad day while making your dress, or even just damage during shipping. What are the things you should look for in your dress before you buy?

The Fabric
The very best gowns are made of either silk or sating. All you need to do is feel the dress to know what it has been created out of. If it feels cheap, it is cheap – plain and simple.
The Hem
You can always tell if you’ve got a good dress by looking at how the hem was done. Cheap gowns have simple hem lines that are generally just straight or stitched. Good dresses will have a horsehair or herringbone hem.
The Lining
The inside of every wedding gown should be lined all the way through, but to save money, some knockoffs only partially line some of the gown and may even leave some of the seams unfinished. If you would feel bad about beads falling off, imagine your entire dress coming apart while you walk down the aisle? Yeah.
Check the Seams
The threads should never show on a wedding dress. If you see a dress that has seem lines showing through the threads, then you should either return it right away or just run away screaming. Seam lines make a dress look cheap and, in turn, will make you look cheap.
Check the Beading
One of the tricks that many dress makers use to save time and money on their end is that they will glue on the beading of your gown rather than actually stitch on the beads. The fact that the beads are glued means that you have a wedding dress that is likely just a cheap knockoff and not a designer dress. You don’t want to have the beads fall off while you walk down the aisle because the glue stopped working, do you? So check to make sure the beads are sewn on.
